Overview

Hidden Glencoe is an immersive three-day photography expedition through one of the most dramatic regions of the Scottish Highlands. Surrounded by towering mountains, deep glens, ancient woodland and open moorland, we’ll explore both iconic locations and quieter viewpoints away from the busiest tourist stops. Our route will take us through the wider Glencoe landscape, including Glen Etive, Rannoch Moor and a selection of lochs, waterfalls, mountain viewpoints and historic Highland landmarks. Each day will be planned around photography rather than sightseeing, giving us time to study compositions, wait for changing conditions and make the most of the available light. The Highlands are at their most powerful when the weather becomes unpredictable. Low cloud can wrap around the mountains, mist can drift across the water and short bursts of sunlight can transform an otherwise dark landscape within seconds. Rather than following a rigid itinerary, we’ll remain flexible and adjust our plans according to the forecast, visibility and conditions on the ground. We’ll aim to photograph during the strongest periods of light, including sunrise and sunset where conditions allow, while using the daytime to explore waterfalls, woodland, reflections, mountain details and more intimate landscape scenes. This approach creates opportunities to build a varied portfolio rather than returning with several versions of the same photograph. Throughout the expedition, you’ll receive practical guidance with composition, camera settings, filters, long exposures and working effectively in rapidly changing weather. There will also be opportunities to use longer lenses to isolate mountain details and drones where conditions and local restrictions permit. Hidden Glencoe is designed for a small group, allowing us to move efficiently between locations and provide individual guidance throughout the trip. Comfortable accommodation and transport between photography locations are included, leaving you free to concentrate on the landscape and your photography. Whether Glencoe delivers dramatic skies, atmospheric rain, mountain mist or calm reflections, the expedition is built around adapting to the conditions and putting you in the strongest possible locations when the landscape comes alive.
